Sydney Observatory

Rel and I found ourselves with no external committments on a weekend - a rare thing - so we went shopping.

Headed to The Rocks for spray painted images, he bought 3 and we watched two being made. Seems the guy does them in between making sales. We also watched the Argyle Glass craftman doing his stuff; I saw him start a tiny tea set. Coming back later, I saw he was done, and had gone on to put some red colouring on two glass dragons.
Also saw him discussing a design with someone else; after he'd finished the dragons, he started making the unknown creation. We didn't stay to watch the end, because we remembered that there was an eclipse coming up.

Next stop was to obtain special sunglasses for observing the upcoming eclipse. They were on sale at the Sydney Observatory.
Due to being located in the middle of the city, the observatory is no longer used as one; it is now a museum.
Since viewing the exhibits was free, we did that for ~1.5 hours. There were many orreries, as well as replicas of original equipment used by explorers and astronomers in ages past.
It was interesting to discover that explorers used chronometers to determine their longitude (east-west position) - it is, at the end of the day, a clock. I suppose it beats the years of rote learning required to master Wayfinding.
Atop the observatory is a time ball; the observatory was originally built where it stands today because it was visible to most of the harbour. It still operates at 1pm daily.

Had sandwiches on Observatory Hill afterward, and failed to find a multicache. So many people taking wedding photos. Some bridesmaides in a limo screamed and cheered at a guy who was doing chinups on a bar and pulling himself up to the support position. I think it weirded him out; the bride eventually went over and probably told them to shut up.

Headed home, made dinner and then desserts with chocolate and cream.
