Coogee beach rocks

So I met up with Rel today at 12:00, obtained lunch from the cafe that used to have coffee and muffin for $5 (they've since raised the prices; I will not be visiting as frequently as I did before). Then headed to uni for cache information, and to watch him play a stacking game on Kongregate.

Took a bus to Coogee Beach. It's a much smaller beach compared to Bondi, but it had looked bigger on Google maps, so its size was a surprise.
Decided that we would watch fireworks from on the beach itself (hopefully it will not be too crowded on new year's eve), and to save the caches on the southern side for the daytime (since fireworks are always at night). Since the park would be closed on the night (they'd probably be launching the fireworks from there), he suggested that we head for it today and see what we'd be missing out.

When given the choice to either head to it by the path, or go via rocks, I picked rocks.
First thing he did was to walk onto, and then slip off a slippery rock. Thankfully it was very far a fall, and only onto sand. It did aggravate his old knee injury though.
I am extremely annoyed at myself for being so worried about him after that. If he says he is fine, I will take his word for it. None of this stupid overly-concerned-ness. I will NOT take after my mother in that area!

Of course, the rocks never got us there, since the park was located at the top of cliffs, and the cliffs were massive. (Not like Bondi's, which may have been possible, but we just ran out of light for.)

It did take us to what appeared to be a dungeon entrance. (A massive drainage pipe.) Photos were taken at 14:49 in an effort to make use of the flash to see further in. Predictably, it did not work.

About 20 minutes in, we came across a man with a white stick, on the rocks near the water's edge. Rel spotted him first from a distance - "Look! There's a man over there playing golf!" It made no sense, and I said as much, suggesting fishing as his alternate activity; nevertheless, when I first took a look, he did indeed seem to be preparing to tee off. We watched awhile; he did not look like he was fishing either. It was decided we would head towards him and perhaps ask.
As we got closer, I saw a strap attached to his stick, which he hadn't looped over his wrist properly. He appeared to be poking at crabs. We did not ask what he was doing after all.

At some point, we came to a pit-like area between some massive rocks; we called it the dump because there was rubbish in it and took a rest while discussing how to get around it.

Not too long afterward, Rel decided that we had come far enough to start naming things and promptly named the massive pointy rock overhang "Ackbar's Peak", because it was clearly a falling rock trap just waiting to happen.

There was even a sign; we never did see what it said. From a distance, we guessed at something about danger, but given the amount of rubbish we found when closer up, it was more likely something along the lines of do not dump rubbish over this cliff.

A few more photos of the thing, this time from closer up while we took a rest and drank most of our meagre water supply.

There were plenty of crabs, but far fewer skinks. This little fellow was found while contemplating how to traverse rocksand-covered rocks.

After at least 1 hour of rock hopping - and according to Google maps, approximately 1km distance-wise - the rocks took us to Gordons Bay. Which was not so much a beach as a boat dock.

We sat on some dressed sandstone bordering some sort of garden bed for a while, drank the last of our water and let the breeze cool us off some before heading along the board walk, in the direction that lad away from Coogee Bay and towards Clovelly.

Below is the view we saw from the northern side of the bay, looking back over where we had travelled.

Annoyed some tourists who were taking too long to get a picture by promptly walking through their picture, and to civilisation.

A bus was conveniently pulling up to the bus stop, so we took it back to Bondi Junction.
Bought orange juice and gatorade before heading back to Rel's place for sleep.

Was woken by my phone alarm at 17:50; it went on for a few seconds before vibrating itself off the shelf, with the battery falling out of the phone. So we slept until 18:30, which was when Rel's parents called to ask why he wasn't at their place yet.

Headed home after that.
