This starts when Rel of EGG called me up Sunday evening; my mobile phone's response was to promptly run out of power. Turns out he wanted to go see WALL-E.
Got to TH around 14:00, bought orange juice, grapes and grape tomatoes from Woolworths, before trying to geocache; was unsuccessful because Cityfail had hired a guard, apparently to guard toilets and the corridor behind them where I'd wanted to search. Was quite irritated.
Met up with Rel ~14:40. He'd been at uni doing work. Went and bought tickets, then checked out the Timezone near the cinema. Not as big as the one that used to be in Towers, and did not feel like getting all sweaty from DDR. Went to Kinokuniya, but nothing was interesting there; it was really just passing the time.
Movie started off with a mini-movie, featuring a magician, his portals-like hat and his rabbit, which he hadn't fed. It was highly entertaining.
The movie itself was pretty good. I was particularly amused by EVE shooting anything that moved. Was also amused by the cleaning robot; poor little thing. Was slightly irritated by the robot-love theme behind it all though.
Went for ice cream at Passionflower afterwards. Expensive, epic ice creams! (No, not epically expensive; expensive yet epic. $14 * 2 + 10% public holiday surcharge = $30.80) I had the brownie one; he had the cookie and cream one. Learned that cookies are not easily eaten when they occur in large chunks in ice cream. Chatted some. Technically he has not moved out; he is no longer living with his parents, but lives with his grandfather to take care of him, along with his brother for the same reason, although his brother went overseas to study. As a result he has his own room now, rather than sharing with his brother back at his parents' house. His grandmother lives with his parents because she has dementia.
Searched for thermal paste afterwards. Felt slightly guilty when he called his parents to say he wouldn't make it to dinner with them that night; it was the answering machine. They called him sometime later to confirm this, they hadn't noticed the message on the answering machine.
Found some thermal paste for $16; did not buy, but instead headed towards uni, in order to find Msy. cK of EGG walked by with a young woman who may have been named Ivy holding his hand. Dropped into uni to see how the EGG stocktake was going; it was apparently not going anywhere, since the QM was nowhere to be seen. Headed to 1.3.lab so that Rel could check the forums to see what had happened, and posted something about it in the exec section.
Ended up not going to Msy after all; ~20:20 asked security to open Ashmore Smith to see if we could find a computer with Portal installed on it. They said no because apparently the booking was almost up, to which I replied that it couldn't be right because the booking should have been until 21:00. Turns out that there was a clash with the bookings and they agreed to open the room after warning us that we had to leave by 21:00.
Did not end up finding Portal; found the iso on The Old Man instead but by then it was close to 21:00; spent the remaining time watching half of the 1st Hellsing OVA.
Then spent several hours in the 1.3.lab playing Portal. The uni computers' clocks were an hour off; by the time I realised this (after a parent had called to ask what was happening with transport), I'd already missed the last bus home so decided to stay at uni.
Rel received delicious cake for finishing the game; considering it silly to continue in such an antisocial manner, I decided that we should leave the lab. Given the choice of going outside into the possible cold to find Msy or staying in the uni, I thought it warmer to stay inside since I had no jacket and we'd missed the sunset already anyway. I don't remember telling him, but it seems he had, and asked where I wandered within the uni. We consequently spent quite some time on 1.1, 2.1, 1.2 and 2.2. Came across the hole in the wall at the top of the ladder; a white door and frame had been put into place. Many fingerprints were on the hinge side of the door; it was suggested that perhaps they'd been made during doorway installation. Someone had scribbled in chalk "Secret experiments" at the bottom right of the ladder and an arrow pointing to the hole. Kept hold of his jacket (which he'd managed to stuff into his somewhat small bag earlier in the day because it was sunny and warm) while he fetched a torch from his bag and climbed up the ladder; then I spotted the light switch. No particularly arousing scents, nor any particularly unpleasant ones to suggest bad hygiene or habits. These findings did not match an earlier whiff that I caught during the day; suspect that smell may have been sweat or nervousness, or perhaps even someone/thing else entirely, since we were in the city.
When we were headed towards the bricked up door, a security guard was spotted, who started on a tour guide spiel, making me forget all about the door. Rel was polite and listened and exchanged small amounts of talk; my social skills need work.
I kept hearing things on 1.1/2.1; they were probably just the pipes, but it made me really jumpy. On top of the nervous that was already present due to the fact that we were basically on a date, it was ... not the best impression. Obtained a tangled mess of cable ties and a nut and bolt.
Decided that we'd wandered the entire place (in hindsight we had not, and had in fact missed most of 2.2) and headed up the tower instead; he wanted to see the roof, but I told him it was unfortunately only possible with security's chaperone (and keys). Headed instead to the highest level we could, to look for a place with windows; ended up looking for a room that his PIN could open, and ended up on 1.26.engineering student lab, where computers and tables were. cK was there. Spent a short while on the computers. They are like the DAB ones, only students of the faculty can login; in order to access the internet, one must also login to the proxy. He undid the tangled mess of cable ties into 3 separate ones, totalling to 4 since I'd found one that was perfectly fine as well.
Having entirely forgotten about finding a window (spent too long going down stairs; got bored of that) we then headed to 1.6.lab for some reason, perhaps because there was the possibility of no reception in 1.3.lab for his phone; wasted some time on the computers. Attempted the Diffusion postlab; couldn't figure out what to do with erf() and gave up. (Found the table of z and corresponding erf(z) values in my tutorial notes later when I went home. Was irritated.) He did not have the textbook by Callister at home after all, although he had several that may have been related. Played a little Achaea. Watched him play Kingdom of Loathing; made suggestions for foodstuff craftings. Watched Rel fall asleep reading a forum. Was worried about the fact that his eyes were rather bloodshot when I poked him, combined with the fact that he had work at 9am, but he seemed unwilling to actually go home, saying that he'd leave when the lack of sleep would start affecting his ability to do work the next day. Sched(?): Tues, Wed, Thurs work 9am; Fri(?), Sat, Sun for sleeping in. Makes excel sheets for an engineering company.
Felt hungry; went to get food. 2 sandwiches from the nearby 7-eleven; classic chicken burger and apple pie from McDonalds. Took food back to 1.3.concourse couches to eat and chat some more. Sat on a comfy-looking couch at a table that had apple peelings in a pile on it; Rel upturned it so that everything fell off, leaving work for the cleaners and room for us to place food upon. *sigh* He is not currently attached and has not been for some time, although he has been before. He also doesn't drink at home, although the alcohol is gathering because he brings them to parties and when they don't get finished, he takes them home so he can bring them to the next party.
Received a few messages from mum about being willing to pick me up; initially refused until she said that she'd already slept a lot and didn't have work the next day. She arrived ~1:30, so I left and Rel walked back to TH to catch a bus.
